During the weekend of August 21-22, 2010, shortly after Damien Jurado and Richard Swift joined forces to create Damien's 2010 album, Saint Bartlett, the duo got cozy with a 4-track recorder and a Coles 4038 ribbon microphone. They set out to capture a delightful collection of cover songs that span from John Denver to Chubby Checker, and even Kraftwerk! The timing couldn’t have been better! On Other People's Songs Vol 1, we witness the early signs of what would evolve into a significant creative shift for the pair—something that blossomed into Damien Jurado's Maraqopa, the first album in his Maraqopa trilogy, just under two years later. The lively opening drum beats of "Be Not So Fearful", the airy falsetto of "Sweetness", and the fun Spaghetti-Western vibe of "Radioactivity" have all become signature elements of the Jurado/Swift collaboration. Other People's Songs Vol 1 is like a precious snapshot, capturing the exciting journey of their partnership as it blossomed.

Keep away from the sun.
Never place it next to a Justin Bieber record.
Treat it like your grandma, you know if she was a record. Know what I mean? Tender care, don't talk back, and never interupt during Murder She Wrote. Wait - what the hell was I writing about-
