Released in '91, Pearl Jam's impactful debut album, Ten, demonstrated their truly unforgettable sound and Eddie Vedder's captivating, gravelly vocals. Presenting the emotion of the era, Vedder wrote largely of feelings of alienation and collective troubledness. This is particularly highlighted in the lyrics of "Even Flow," wherein he sheds light on homelessness, and "Jeremy," which is said to be based on the real account of a young man taking his own life in front of his fellow classmates. Initially receiving a slow response, after they supported the Red Hot Chili Peppers in '91, the album grew in popularity and eventually went gold. Even more impressive, it climbed to the No.2 spot on the Billboard chart the following year, selling an astounding 13 million copies globally.
