In January of 2023, a scene of snow-covered streets and a coffin in Dorset sets the stage for Loma's rebirth. Despite the challenges of being scattered across the globe, the band is determined to create new music. As writer, singer, and instrumentalist Emily Cross puts it, "it's like a force takes over the room whenever we get together". After the release of their 2020 album Don't Shy Away, the band members found themselves in different countries and entered a period of hibernation. But when Cross suggests regrouping in her home country of the UK, in a small stone house once used as a coffin-maker's workshop, the band jumps at the opportunity. With only minimal recording equipment and instruments, Loma transforms two simple rooms into a makeshift studio, using a padded coffin as a vocal booth. This unconventional setup proves to be a turning point as they scrap much of their previous work and let the new surroundings guide their creative direction.
