Collaborating with LA-based producer McClenney, and featuring fellow Chicago natives like Saba and Peter CottonTale, Woods creates a comprehensive depiction of relationships' highs and lows. "Water Made Us" is an allusion to a Toni Morrison quote, symbolizing memory, location, and return. Through the album, Woods presents love as an ever-changing sea; warm, deep and mesmerizing at its peak, and a disorienting riptide at its worst. Yet, she embraces every wave, viewing even heartbreaking endings as a pathway back to self.
