Fiddlehead was not originally planning to make a second record. In fact, they weren't even planning to make their first record. The band was formed during a difficult time in singer Pat Flynn's life, but with modest intentions. Flynn and guitarist Alex Dow started working on some songs, and with the recent breakup of Basement, guitarist Alex Henery joined them. Drummer Shawn Costa and bassist Adam Gonsalves, later replaced by Casey Nealon, completed the lineup. Together, they wrote the songs that would become the Out Of The Bloom EP. These five songs defined Fiddlehead as a band that combined elements of post-hardcore, post-punk, and classic '80s emo into a sound that was uniquely theirs.
