Originally issued by Led Zeppelin's Swan Song label in 1979, 'Repeat When Necessary' quickly rose to become Dave Edmunds' most successful album. Not only did it mark his debut on the U.K. charts, but it also made an appearance on the U.S. Billboard 200. The lead single, 'Girls Talk', written by Elvis Costello, became Dave's top hit since his 1970 revival of 'I Hear You Knocking', which was an instant hit worldwide. Along with Nick Lowe, also featured on this album, Dave Edmunds and his Rockpile colleagues epitomized the stripped-down sound of Great Britain's pub rock movement. Their music was a blend of power pop and rockabilly, paving the way for the rise of new wave. The fusion of these genres has arguably never been more powerful than on this particular album.
