Clipping is celebrating the 10th anniversary of their 2014 Sub Pop debut, clppng, with a new colored-vinyl edition. The edition is limited to 1,000 copies. Since the time the above was written, things have changed for clipping. The band discovered that there was a more receptive audience for their music than they had initially imagined. Before their 2013 release, Midcity, the trio of rapper Daveed Diggs and producers Jonathan Snipes and William Hutson did not anticipate finding an audience for their unique brand of rap music. However, since their formation and the release of their debut album, the music industry has gradually made room for noisier, more adventurous elements in electronic production. Even though clipping. insists that they are just making rap— not noise-rap, industrial-rap, or any other genre mashup— their music may be more sonically challenging than the rap rockers, lo-fi producers, and street goth hybridists they have been associated with so far.
