I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone is Wednesday's second full-length album and first as a full band. The Asheville, NC quintet blends together shoegaze, grunge, indie pop, and southern American culture in a unique modern rock style - featuring Karly Hartzman's bell-clear vocals, three guitar attack, pedal steel guitarist Xandy Chelmis, bassist Margo Schultz, and drummer Alan Miller. The album's eight songs offer a balance between the band's live performances and the emotionality of Hartzman's lyrical narratives and literary references. I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone also draws influence from The Swirlies, Arthur Russell, Red House Painters, Tenniscoats, Ana Roxanne, Acetone, and their collaboration with MJ Lenderman (backing vocals "Billboard" and "November").
