Produced by Prince Paul, it marked the beginning of a successful collaboration between the two parties. The album received both critical and commercial acclaim, boasting hit singles such as "Me Myself and I", "The Magic Number", "Buddy", and "Eye Know". The title was inspired by Johnny Cash's "Five Feet High and Rising". Rolling Stone included it in their list of 200 Essential Rock Records, and The Source recognized it as one of the 100 Best Rap Albums. In the Village Voice's 1989 Pazz & Jop Critics Poll, 3 Feet High and Rising was ranked #1, and it also made Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
